Your hearing is a sense that keeps you in tune with the world. Without it, engaging with family, friends, colleagues and the community can be difficult. It is also a sense that keeps you safe by alerting you to potential dangers – a car horn, a smoke alarm, a loud bang in the night.

Gradual hearing loss
Hearing loss can happen over time and realising that your hearing is compromised can also be gradual. Others say you have the TV too loud, someone lets you know your phone is ringing, you realise that you didn’t hear the doorbell.
When you’re ready, take our online hearing screener or book a hearing assessment with our friendly audiologists. Together, we’ll make life sound better.
A hearing test can help to determine if you need wax removal, tinnitus support, support for an auditory processing disorder, or if you are experiencing one of three types of hearing loss: sensorineural, conductive or mixed.
Sensorineural hearing loss
This is permanent hearing loss. Commonly referred to as nerve deafness, sensorineural loss occurs when the sensitive hair cells inside the inner part ear of the ear are damaged and stop responding effectively to sound. Common causes include damage from noise exposure, and aging.
Conductive hearing loss
This hearing loss can either be curable or permanent. Conductive refers to a lack of sound being properly conducted through the outer or middle ear, on its way into the inner ear. Common causes include fluid in the middle ear from an ear infection, wax impaction in the ear canal, and otosclerosis (deformation of the ear bones).
Mixed hearing loss
This means you have both conductive and sensorineural hearing loss occurring simultaneously.
At the conclusion of your hearing assessment, your audiologist will talk to you about your results and what’s next.
